Excellent location next to railway station. I was warmly welcomed by lovely reception staff who did a very efficient check in process. My single room had everything I required for an overnight stay & I loved having a bubble bath after a days walking ! Catherine in the restaurant bar was super friendly & helpful, and she makes the best hot latte ever, thank you

Just spent 3 nights here as a solo woman . My room was adequate comfy bed but it did feel like it was on a slight slope but I was so tired I zonked out every night any way . Massive bathroom spot less with a huge long bath . Small fridge. TV . Coffee tea facilities. The room was so hot I had to turn radiators off and ask for a fan which was in my room when I finished dinner . Now getting back to dinner . I actual had to change tables as the heat coming through the walls was stifling. I can imagine if you'd been out all day in the freezing cold you'd probably love it . So changed to another table . I had been to the bar and was told to sit at a table that was set for dinner and someone would come across . No evening food menus on the table so I got up and got my own 2 of which were obsolete. I sat and sat and was completely ignored by the young female she preferred to serve couples or more who had come in way after me . Just about finished my wine a lovely lady who had been there when I checked in asked if I was okay . No I feel really un welcome I've watched people have there orders taken and get food and I've been ignored. Not just ignored but it was to the point I couldn't even catch her eye . I was just about to go. The lovely lady saved the day because I was not only about to go but also cancel the next 2 nights . She chatted to my order brought my food out brought an extra glass of wine ( no charge ) . I am going to have to say this the lunch / dinner food is not worth the money beef tasted like it had been stored near lamb and taste had transferred. The French onion soup was lacking the onions had not been cooked down enough still crunchy in places and the broth smelt store bought but now so got take away delivered for half the price and better quality. Now to the good stuff . Reception staff are super helpful happy welcoming couldn't fault any of them . So next day I went down for breakfast greeted and sat by lovely lady sat me in the window explained how breakfast worked there and brought out a substantial pot of tea and fresh milk . I have to say the breakfast is one of the best I've ever had in any hotel ever. Small but good quality fresh ingredients fantastic. My go to was plain yoghurt honey fresh melon and grape salad banana almonds hazelnuts topped with granola. Croissant. Then I obviously had to try the hot breakfast food all of which was hot and good quality . Thick bacon, black pudding hashbrowns scrambled and fried eggs fresh tomatoes ,mushrooms, sausage , baked beans . I didn't try it all in one day but over 3 days . There is a variety of cereals. Fresh juice and meats and cheese as well as fresh fruit . Day 2 and 3 Micheal was on breakfast duty and was really welcoming so happy as were the rest of the breakfast time and they are an asset to the company .

Great location particularly if arriving by train. Stunning entrance and very welcoming reception staff. This continued with the charming breakfast staff. Breakfasts very good: lots of fruit choice, pastries, hot food. Scrambled eggs of particular note but sausages not great. Leisure club felt in need of a refurb. the pool was small and water rather cold!! Bedroom good with comfy bed. Downside size and quality of the towels... Room housekeeping very poor: no biscuits first two days, coffee cup not washed during stay, used toilet rolls not replaced.

We’ve stayed here three times now, and our previous two visits were excellent value for money. The location is a huge plus, being right in the heart of Newcastle and perfect for getting around the city. On this visit, we travelled by train, and the convenience was unbeatable, it took no more than two minutes to walk from the platform to reception. Jonathan on the front desk was fantastic: friendly, welcoming, and very helpful, which made for a great first impression. We paid £82.00 for a superior room on an advance purchase, room-only basis. The main difference compared to a classic room appeared to be the size, which was noticeably larger, but aside from that, it didn’t feel particularly “superior.” There were a few maintenance and housekeeping issues that detracted from the overall experience. Cables were visibly hanging below the television, and there was a stained splatter down the side of the bath that hadn’t been cleaned. We also found a pair of underwear left behind the radiator, which was quite obvious and concerning from a cleanliness perspective. Additionally, the toilet didn’t flush properly unless the water level rose very high. The shower was also disappointing, the head was fixed in an upright position and couldn’t be adjusted, and the temperature fluctuated unpredictably between hot and cold. While I understand that occasional issues can happen, I did report these concerns to reception at checkout. Unfortunately, this stay didn’t reflect the same standard or value for money that we experienced on our previous visits. That said, we would stay here again due to the excellent location and positive experiences we’ve had before. However, we would not choose a superior room again in its current condition, as it did not justify the upgrade, and it’s clear that these rooms would benefit from some attention and improvement.

Once you can get passed the nasty blue carpet and gloss grey paint this really is an historical and spectacular hotel. ( check out the history and info an those amazing Burmantofts tiles!!) Staff are terrifically friendly ( thanks Davidson ) and the breakfast is great . It’s location could not be better for a city centre yet it is quiet in your room.

Stayed here for one night. Right next to the train station and a short walk to the city centre. Rooms are adequate, clean and tidy. Only problem was the squeaky floor boards. Breakfast was ok a bit dry but there was plenty of options. Check in and check out was breeze. Davidson was very helpful at the check in desk when we arrived and managed to get to the room early which was a bonus.

Great overnight stay! Comfy spacious room with good heating! The hotel entrance and staircase are grand and i like the old fashion feel to it and this is a compliment. Would highly recommend it! Oh breakfast was good but please include a hot chocolate option for the hot drinks not just coffee as not everyone can drink coffee!

Really enjoyed my overnight stay. My first time visiting Newcastle. Lovely old building and the room was excellent. I slept very well. It was very quiet. In the morning I had a lovely breakfast in the bar area. All throughout the staff were great. Friendly & professional and I mean all staff that I encountered. The Metro underground is right outside the front entrance. Really handy. Very good value for money. I would return here in the blink of an eye. I highly recommend it.
